Aldershot DFA Long Service Award- Tony Cherry
Tony Cherry was presented with the Aldershot Divisional Football Association award for 20 Years’ Service at the recent Combined Counties League match between Fleet Town and Molesey.
It was fitting that the award was made at Calthorpe Park where Tony spent 16 years, initially as manager, before a 15-year period as Chairman between 1984 and 1999.
Tony’s involvement in local football commenced in 1968 where he was one of the founding members of Prospect Sunday FC. He was also Player-Manager of the club between 1974 and 1979. Tony also managed Yateley between 1980 and 1983.
Other roles have included periods on the Wessex League Management Committee. More recently Tony has been the Team Manager of the Cove Walking Football Team. He is also the Walking Football representative on the Aldershot DFA committee.
Tony’s record speaks for itself and he has been a great local servant to football and remains active to this day.
