20 year service award – Paul Spooner
A presentation was made recently in recognition of “20 Years’ Service to Football in the Aldershot Divisional Football Association Area” to PAUL SPOONER from Mytchett Athletic FC.
Paul has had an extensive presence within local football. An amateur player in both the United Kingdom and in Russia his involvement in local football commenced in 1998 as a Parent Helper/Coach at Mytchett initially involving under 5’s to under 7.
Thereafter, Paul became a committee member of the club in 2000 and three years later, Chairman; a role he served for six years. When the award was originally citated in the summer of 2020 (during the covid-19 pandemic) Paul had served as Secretary for the club for 11 years in addition to representing the North East Hampshire Youth League committee between 2013 and 2017 where he also served in the role as Chairman.
Paul also served the Hampshire FA council between 2015 and 2019 and the Aldershot DFA from 2014.
Mytchett Athletic FC was founded in 1971 and now boasts more than 400 playing members, aged from as young as four up to and beyond 40. The aim of the club is to promote football in the local community to both boys and girls. The club motto is “Progress” with an emphasis on fun and good sportsmanship.
